Equipment

  • Bread Machine
  • Grill

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients:

  • cups bread flour 550 g
  • 4 Tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp salt

Wet Ingredients:

  • 1 cup very warm water from the tap
  • 3 Tbsp milk
  • 1 lg egg beaten

Additional:

  • 2 tsp active dry yeast for leavening
  • ¼ tsp granulated garlic Optional
  • ¼ cup butter melted

Instructions

  • First, measure and combine your dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl and set aside: bread flour, sugar, salt. Not your yeast. Don't add that yet.
  • In your bread machine add your wet ingredients starting with very warm water. I like to use very warm water from the tap because once you pour it into the bread machine pan it cools down. Then you add some milk and egg and it cools it down more. So not hot water, just very warm.
  • Beat your egg and milk together and add that to the water in your bread machine.
  • Now you can pour your dry mixture right on top of the wet mixture in the bread machine. (Or follow the instructions your bread machine manufacturer suggests.)
  • Make a little well in the flour mixture and add your yeast. Close your bread machine and select the 'Dough' mode. Let the cycle run all the way through. If you like garlic naan, go ahead and add that now.
  • When your dough is done, you can pour it out onto a floured counter top. Separate dough into 12 balls, about the size of a golf ball maybe a little bigger. Roll into balls, and place on a baking sheet with parchment. Cover with a flour sack towel, and allow to rise until doubled in size, about 30 minutes.
  • You can start heating up the grill now. Med to Med-high is fine.
  • While the grill is preheating I roll the dough out into circles on a floured surface, about 6-7 inches around. Place naan bread circles back onto the parchment. You can stack them, just separate them with more parchment paper.

  • Once you have rolled out all the dough balls, you can head out to the grill. Lightly oil grill. Place dough on grill, and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, dough is puffy and browned. Brush uncooked side with butter or oil, and turn over. Cook another 2 to 4 minutes. Remove from grill and brush lightly with melted butter if desired. Continue the process until all the naan has been prepared.
  • Serve with your favorite curry or make Indian fry bread tacos. These are so yummy and they go fast!
