Can I Clean my Instant Pot® lid in the Dishwasher?

If you have an Instant Pot® brand electric pressure cooker then, YES! I will also add that it’s a very effective way to clean your lid, the seal, and all the little parts. Certainly, you can also wash the lid by hand, but this info is specifically about using the dishwasher and steps you want to take.

FAQ:

How often do I need to clean my lid? You need to clean and dry your lid after you use it. If you just cooked something like hard-boiled eggs or did something that was Pot-in-Pot, then there may only be condensation on the lid (food particle-free), and may only need rinsing and drying.

Is it safe to clean my Instant Pot® brand lid in the dishwasher? Yes, it is.

Can I just plop my lid in the dishwasher without taking it all apart? Sure you can, IF your lid isn’t very dirty and food particles aren’t visible it would be fine to put it on the top rack and clean it in the dishwasher.

How often should I take my lid apart to clean it? This will specifically depend on how often you use your pot AND what you are cooking. ANYTIME, you are cooking foamy, starchy foods [i.e. beans, oatmeal, rice, pasta, etc.], then you should probably take it apart to clean it. If you use your pot every day, then you probably should take it apart to clean it 1-2 times per week.

Do I have to remove the seal? You probably don’t need to remove the seal EVERY time you clean it, but it’s a good practice to remove it to clean it thoroughly every 3-4 uses.

Can I clean ANY brand electric pressure cooker lid in the dishwasher? No. Not all electric pressure cooker lids can be washed in the dishwasher. Some have aluminum parts that will discolor or degrade when washed in the dishwasher. You will need to refer to your manual for proper washing instructions.
