What Does Less-Normal-More Mean?
People assume that this is a Pressure Level setting, and many will insist that they use their pot on Normal or More pressure. Or they will tell you their pot has THREE pressure settings. So don’t be embarrassed if you are one of those people when I tell you that it has NOTHING to do with setting the Pressure Level of your pot.
So what does the Less-Normal-More Do????
Let me explain. It has a few functions with your pot.
Saute:
Saute has three different temperature ranges. On most models you will just keep pressing Saute to toggle between the settings.
- “Less” is great for simmering or thickening a sauce, typically at 275 to 302 degrees
- “Normal” is 320 to 349 degrees Fahrenheit, perfect for regular sautéing like for veggies.
- “More” is 347 to 410 degrees, great for searing meat or browning.
Slow Cook:
The Slow Cook button also has three different temperatures. Keep pressing Slow Cook on most models until you have the setting you need. Most of the time you will use this on the More setting.
- “Less” which is 180 to 190. You can compare this to Warm on a crock pot. You cannot cook food at this temperature.
- “Normal” which is 190 to 200 degrees. You can compare this to Low on a crockpot. however, it’s actually even lower in temp than an actual crock pot.
- “More” which is 200 to 210. This is supposed to be compared to High on a crock pot. However a regular crock pot is 230 degrees on High.
Keep Warm:
The Keep Warm function also has three different temperature settings. Keep Pressing Keep Warm until you have the setting you need. Most of the time you should use this on the Normal setting.
- Less (~56°C/133°F),
- Normal (~63°C/145°F),
- More (~75°C/172°F)
Pre-Set Buttons:
Some models come with a variety of preset buttons. Such as Soup/Broth, Meat/Stew, Bean/Chili, Egg, etc. Not all models have the same buttons but the Less-Normal-More setting will be for the pre-set times. Think of it as Less Time, Normal Time, and More Time.
