Maple Walnut Pie
Equipment
- glass pie pan
Ingredients
- 1 9-inch unbaked pie crust I use Pillsbury brand
- 1 cup U.S. Grade A Dark Maple Syrup
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 eggs
- 2 Tbsp melted butter
- 1 tsp real vanilla extract
- 2 tsp maple extract
- 1-1/2 cups chopped walnuts
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Roll out pie crust according to instructions. Spray your pie pan lightly with cooking spray on the bottom only, not up the sides. Center the crust in the pan and flute the edges how you like.
- Mix maple syrup, eggs, sugar, butter, maple extract, and vanilla. Stir in copped walnuts. Pour filling into pie crust.
- Place foil or pie crust shields around the edges to prevent excess browning of crust. Bake in oven for 60 to 70 minutes. Cool for 2 hours on wire rack before serving.
- Pie is done when center reaches 200°F. Tap center surface of pie lightly - it should spring back when done.
- Serve with ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
Notes
Can I just use regular maple syrup? Actually, no. I have tried several times. Even supplementing the maple flavor with maple extract. Still doesn't work. You can't taste the maple at all with pancake syrup, even when it's 100% real maple syrup. The flavor is already very mild and doesn't come trough when baking.
