How to Prepare a Tyson Pot Roast Kit in the Instant Pot

A lot of people buy these and then have questions about out how to prepare them in their Instant Pot. Here’s how you do it.These kits come in two different sizes. One that is just under 4 lbs (serves 4) and one that is just around 2 lbs (serves 2). Keep in mind that the weight stated is for the entire package, not just the meat. These instructions also work for the Pork Roast kit.

STEPS TO PREPARE:
  • Season and sear your meat on Saute (optional, but very good if you do)
  • If you use Saute, then deglaze your pot with 1-2 cups of beef broth
  • If you choose not to sear your meat, just add the broth now
  • Place meat back in pot, add veggies to the top
  • Cook for 45 min and 20 NPR (for the smaller roast cook for 35 min, 10 NPR)
  • Remove roast and veggies to a platter and let rest
  • Add a *slurry to broth/pan juices to make gravy on Saute mode
OTHER VARIABLES TO CONSIDER:
  • If you like your roast to be ‘falling apart’ cut the roast in half or into quarters before cooking. This will allow the roast to cook in the same amount of time and get the desired result.
  • If you prefer firmer veggies, cook veggies and meat separately. First, cook the roast. Then set aside to rest and cook your veggies in the pot for 5 minutes and QR. Then make your gravy for serving.
  • *A slurry is just equal amounts cornstarch to water to thicken. Use about 1 Tbsp cornstarch and 1 Tbsp water, per cup of broth that you used to thicken your gravy.
